MOOSEHEAD BREWERIES JOINS #STOPHATEFORPROFIT BOYCOTT

Company will halt all paid advertising on Facebook and Instagram for the month of July

[Saint John, New Brunswick] - Moosehead Breweries will stop all paid advertising on Facebook and Instagram for the month of July, the company confirmed today, making the Canadian brewer the latest signatory to the #StopHateforProfit campaign.

#StopHateforProfit was launched in the United States by six leading human rights organizations - ADL (the Anti-Defamation League), the NAACP, Sleeping Giants, Color Of Change, Free Press and Common Sense - in response to a demonstrated failure by the social media giant to effectively address hate speech on the platform.

“As a brewer, we talk a lot about the Canadian values that define us: boldness, independence, strength of character, but also openness, inclusivity and warmth,” said Trevor Grant, Vice President of Marketing and Sales, Moosehead Breweries. “More needs to be done to protect those values on the world’s biggest social platforms, and to end hate speech online, and we stand in support of this much-needed change.”

Moosehead Breweries is Canada’s largest and oldest independent brewer. In addition to the iconic Moosehead Lager, the company’s brands include Cracked Canoe, Moosehead Light, Alpine Lager and Hop City. All Moosehead brands will be participating in the boycott.
